> Stern Grove Performance

Below is a poem in response to my performance experience at Stern Grove. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and everyone who was with us in spirit. I invite you to respond with your own comments about the performance. Also, check out the SF Chronicle Review.

Stern Grove

I was a valley before you came here
Clouds come into me from the west
Noise comes from the east
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I am too small

I am trees holding this valley motionless
trust me
I am tall enough

I am water that falls on unmoved rocks
and finds its own crevice

I am stone
just sitting still
Silently waiting for you to look, listen, touch
Come, sit on me
Let me tell you my story
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I do not know why I came here

--

It has been enough to watch you
To hold you
These many months

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fill my hands with cherry blossoms
I lay you on the rock one last time
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I finally feel the softness in this landscape of stone

Let me guide you down these steps blind
Let me tell you over and over again
You are good enough
For me.

Let my voice wash over you.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>For you
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I am ready to cry.
-T.P.
